Great leaders do it. Great comedians do it. Great speakers do it. Now it is time for you to do it too!!
Have you ever been in a conversation and thought, “Man, what was that awesome line from that book I read last week?” or” I wish I could pull out that clever movie quote I heard last night.” Or maybe you are assembling a presentation for your boss and co-worker’s and it seems really bland. Wouldn’t it be awesome to have a bank of quotes, proverbs, jokes, stories, and words of wisdom categorized by topic to choose from each time you needed it?
Start it today!! I have recently started mine. I call it my personal rule book. You can call it whatever you would like. I got the idea from Donald Rumsfeld’s’ book “Rumsfeld’s Rules.” Since I have began, I have realized how much wisdom, comedy, and stories I encounter in everyday life. I categorize the little nuggets and save then in folders labeled by topic. Some are quotes from books, others are things my dad or granddad always say.
Here are a few examples:
Planning/Strategy
If you aim at nothing, you’ll hit it every tome – Zig Zigler
If you don’t know what your top 3 priorities are, you don’t have priorities. – Rumsfeld’s Rules
Leadership
You can’t manage your men up a hill, you have to lead them. – Unknown
Pull the string and it will follow you wherever you wish, push it and it will go nowhere at all. – Dwight Eisenhower
Hiring
A’s hire A’s, B’s hire C’s and sometimes D’s. – Rumsfeld’s Rules
The best, easiest, fastest, most effective firing takes place during the hiring process. – Jarrett Greer
These are just a few of the examples I have accumulated in the past few months. Start yours today and you will soon find you have a wealth material of your own. I you would like, share some of yours here.
